The Best Winter Plans in Vallés Oriental

Thinking that holidays are only in summer is a cliché that has led us to neglect winter as a good season for enjoyment and rest. Hot chocolate or a good wine, fireplace, the silence of the countryside, and a good conversation can be a fantastic plan for any date when the mountains of Catalonia are dressed in white.

Vallés Oriental is a region located just 20 minutes from Barcelona. It offers spectacular  winter afternoons and activities for all ages. Nature, culture, peace, shopping, gastronomy, and much more await you to give you the best winter of your life.

What to see in Catalonia in winter?

Undoubtedly, talking about Catalonia and winter can only bring one thing to mind: The Pyrenees, the ideal destination for sports and adventure tourism in the snow. The Pyrenees of Catalonia have ten ski resorts, but you can also make excursions with snowmobiles, mountaineering, ice climbing, etc…

On the other hand, if you are one of those who love the winter, but prefer it more quiet and gentle, Vallés Oriental is your ideal place. A region that is fully dedicated to tourism with family, friends or as a couple. Four and five star hotels offer you stays close to the magic of this region, such as the Hotel Augusta, one of the best rated in the area.

What to visit in Vallés Oriental?

In the coldest seasons, thermal tourism is the most demanded, as well as hiking and delicious gastronomy. You can even enjoy hotels close to all the places of interest and at the same time away from the lights and bustle of the town.

The Hotel Augusta is a favorite for visitors passing through Vallés Oriental and its capital Granollers. It is only 20 minutes by car from Barcelona, an hour and a half from the French border and only 40 kilometers from Barcelona’s International Airport. In addition, it is 10 kilometers from the most important luxury shopping center in Catalonia “La Roca Village” where you can shop for the latest fashions.

Vallés Oriental also has areas of interest for nature lovers in winter such as the Montseny Natural Park, declared a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO and the Gallecs Natural Park, the most important green area of the region. On the other hand, you can not miss the Museum of Granollers, a place to see the remains of ancient buildings of the town.

The traditional Thursday Market is another great attraction of the municipality of Granollers. More than 450 stalls in various streets and squares can offer you very tempting bargains. Finally, we cannot fail to mention the Catalunya circuit in Montmeló, home of the best championships in the world.

Activities with children in Vallés Oriental

Vallés Oriental is a spectacular area for family tourism as it offers quiet and fun spaces that help to strengthen sentimental and cultural ties. Excursions with children are already a tradition in the protected rural area of Gallecs, either by foot or bike. All trails are well marked and have almost no slope.

The Garriga park is another attraction that has equipment prepared for children with disabilities, and you can also visit the Serreta park, where children can have fun on the giant slide. Last but not least, the colorful park of Mollet del Vallés becomes a spectacle for the little ones when night falls. The combinations of lights reflected in the water are a delight for the eyes.

How to get to Vallés Oriental. Main routes

Vallés Oriental is very well communicated with Barcelona and the rest of the municipalities of Catalonia. Several train lines connect with the capital of the region such as R3, R2N and R2. By car the main routes are:

AP-7: Highway connecting Girona with Barcelona.

C-17: Highway that crosses the region and connects it with Barcelona.

C-60: Highway connecting Granollers with the Mediterranean Sea.
