  • What to see in Girona?

Girona is one of the Spanish cities with the best-preserved old towns; don't pass up the chance to visit it! The must-sees in the city are:

    • Passeig de la Muralla: to take in magnificent views of the city.
    • Barri Vell: the old quarter, which is home to the remains of the former Roman city of Gerunda, from which the city takes its name. In contrast, the Arab baths have stood the test of time, which means that you can find them in all their glory when you pay them a visit.
    • The Jewish quarter (Call Jueu): is one of the best-preserved Jewish quarters in Spanish.
    • Catedral de Santa Maria: with an amalgamation of the Romanesque, Gothic and Baroque architectural styles, it boasts the second-widest Gothic nave in the world, only after St. Peter’s in the Vatican.
    • The bridges built spanning the Onyar River and the views of the multi-coloured houses perched on its banks.

And don’t forget to take a leisurely stroll through its picturesque streets to browse around and shop at the botigas of the city’s artisans.
Visiting Girona is really a must if it happens that you're travelling during the Fires de Sant Narcís in honour of the city's patron saint. Another festival—recently created yet world famous—is the so-called ‘Girona, Temps de Flors (Time for Flowers)’, which brings together visitors from all over the world.

    Other interesting facts about Girona

Did you know that the city was used to film some of the scenes in season six of Game of Thrones? Lose yourself among its streets while traipsing around looking for the filming locations where some of the actors playing characters such as Cersei Lannister and Margaery Tyrell, among others, were.
Don’t think twice! Come and stay at our hotel near Girona to discover one of the most charming cities on the Iberian Peninsula.

Advantages of staying in Barcelona to visit Girona

The answer is really quite simple: one of the great disadvantages to staying at a hotel in the centre of Girona is that they tend to offer less services—in that they lack a gym or pool—and they generally have much smaller common areas. This limited space, together with the exorbitant prices per square metre in cities, compels hotels to make do with what they have. By contrast, if you choose a hotel near Girona, not only will you get to breathe in clean air, you will also be able to enjoy gardens and other outdoor areas with beautiful views. And let’s not forget the possibility of taking a dip in the pool! Without a doubt, the best option when travelling with your family, friends or significant other.
For tourists who decide to travel by car—whether their own or a rental—, it may be even more interesting to choose a hotel near Girona in order to avoid annoying traffic jams and the hassle of finding parking, which obliges them to opt for private parking on many occasions. Furthermore, another advantage is that you can easily visit many other points of interest in the province. This is because the Augusta Barcelona Vallès Hotel offers the peace and quiet of a rural retreat but without relinquishing the vast array of possibilities available thanks to its excellent location.
